Step to Reduce Burden
There are 17 Sustainable Development Goals which are set for overall development of a Nation. All 17 SDGs are connected to UNDP’s Strategic Plan focus areas: sustainable development, democratic governance and peacebuilding, and climate and disaster resilience.These Goals are universally applicable that balances the three Dimensions of Sustainable Development: Economic, Social, and Environmental. One such goal is to reduce poverty.
In focus to reduce poverty and to empower women in India a partnership came up with India Development Foundation, UNDP and Xynteo, which is supported by IKEA Foundation. A project is running to increase the employ ability for women and to raise their standard of living.
This partnership seeks to make the impact on one million women through training and providing entrepreneurial skill development and employment. To enlighten the path, project is called Disha: Creating Employment and Entrepreneurship Opportunities for Women in India. This project is being implemented in various states of India, namely, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, NCR/Delhi and Telangana. It has been started in January 2015 till December 2017. It is focusing on Goal 1(End poverty in all its forms everywhere), Goal 5 (Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls),Goal 8( Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation), Goal 10 (Reduce inequality within and among countries), Goal 17 (Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership of sustainable development).
It nudge the lives one million women over a period of 3 years. It helps in providing women and girls entrepreneurial skills and secure their lives. It also support the Government of India skill development initiative.
